H2otel

Amsterdam, Países Bajos

This project revolves around two questions: how can a hotel tower be made more sustainable? How can a franchised hotel create a local sense of place?

The design of the hotel tower unfolds along one basic principle: the shifting structure of the facade. The wood and aluminum-clad facade is designed to fully profit from sunlight and heat. The dense arrangement of wooden lamellae on the south-facing facade protects the building from overheating at mid-day and during the warm season. The interval of lamellae gradually decreases toward the northern side, thereby opening the building up to morning and evening sun as well as spectacular panoramic views over the historic center of Amsterdam.
