Fraunhofer-Institute for Ceramic Technologies und Systems IKTS, Hermsdorf Since its incorporation into Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft the new institute in Hermsdorf has shown a dynamic development, which has made a identity-establishing extension necessary. A long, two-storey main body will house the different departments and sections.
The facade serves as the linking element of the design concept and will bear reference to the aim of the institute. It consists of delicate horizontal bands made of light ceramics, which are arranged more loosely or narrowly according to the program of the rooms. Thus from the motorway a bright, elegant building will be visible, embodying innovation, research and the handling of ceramics - the main focus of Fraunhofer-Institute in Hermsdorf.
