Rudolph House
Stuttgart, Germany
Rudolph House, created by Alexander Brenner Architects, is a modern home which reflects the personal passion of the owner for vintage cars and contemporary art. It is located on a steep slope with a view of Stuttgart's city centre and stands out from its surroundings due to its clear cubature.
The topography of the property influences the design of the house. The access to the 10 m deep residential level is carried out via a footpath parallel to the slope or via a car lift. This leads directly into an everyday garage and from there to an exhibition room with the owner's vintage car collection. Both buildings are covered with a green ceiling to keep the visibly built-over area as minimal as possible and to encourage the integration into the surrounding countryside. The actual house is located opposite and is linked with the garage via a terrace. The terrace serves as an extended outdoor living space in the summer months and connects directly to an open lounge, kitchen and dining area indoors. The private bedrooms and bathrooms are located one floor deeper, while a further floor underneath houses a free room for different uses as well as a guest apartment. There is a wonderful view of the city centre and the slopes opposite from all the floors.
The interior design reflects the modern, minimalist style which characterises the building and has a warm, inviting atmosphere. A harmonious interplay of form and function is created by the use of high-quality materials and precise concrete details. The planners from Alexander Brenner Architects placed particular value on authenticity and durability in the material selection. Natural stone slabs were used for the floors throughout the house. The use of oak, raw steel and leather in the fittings and furniture give the rooms a pleasant atmosphere and yet radiate warmth. Art and design are integral elements of the interior. Works of contemporary artists hang on the walls and reflect the personal interest of the owner in the art world. The electrical equipment from JUNG's LS 990 range in antique brass are the optimum fit for this ambience.
Rudolph House represents a connection between contemporary architecture and the personal life of the owner. The vintage car collection and the owner's passion for architecture are visible in the overall concept so that the building becomes not only a place to live but also a room for art and cultural appreciation.
