Birdhouses in Bali
Bali, Indonesia
With the Birdhouses project, the renowned architect Alexis Dornier has created an extraordinary accommodation which is harmoniously integrated in the natural environment in the middle of a tropical rainforest in Bali. The ensemble, which is reminiscent of modern tree houses due to its light, almost floating design, consists of three buildings, which have been built on stilts.
The structure of the resort was conceived so that it respects nature. At the same time, it offers the guests a luxurious living experience in the middle of a lush, tropical landscape.
Each house thus meets a specific function and offers space for up to ten guests. Due to the elevated design, the occupants have a breathtaking view of the environment and also profit from a pleasant breeze which is made the most of due to the open architecture. Particular value was placed on the integration of the existing vegetation. Large trees were consciously integrated in the architecture, providing natural shade and creating personal privacy. The construction method respects the environment and uses sustainable materials such as wood, which was used both for the external facade and the interior design. The warm wood tones create a pleasant, natural atmosphere and reinforce the feeling of being at one with the environment. A further characteristic design feature is the lighting concept by studio nimmersatt. Indirect light sets accents and creates a pleasant atmosphere so that the houses appear at nightfall like shining lanterns in the dense green of the rainforest. The open design of the rooms encourages dialogue between the interior and exterior and enables an intensive natural experience.
To do justice to the design concept, a KNX system was installed to control the lighting and other building technologies. The system is valued for its flexibility and intuitive functions which enable the users to adapt the interior to different requirements. The scenic function of the lighting program plays a key role in the public areas of the residence and creates an atmosphere in which the occupants can enjoy the welcoming quality of the rooms together. In combination with the minimalist design of the LS 990 in anthracite, the functional elements are integrated in the architectural language of the Birdhouses.
