Starr Whitehouse designed the outdoor spaces for a new mixed-use building in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, with dramatic views of the East River and Manhattan skyline. The program includes an entry courtyard and drop-off area, a broad green roof on the fourth floor with group social areas and extensive meadows, and a shared roof terrace providing areas for both group social activities and quiet, intimate retreats. The approach to the green roof terraces balances considerations of environmental performance, cost, horticultural diversity, and engaging social amenities for the residents.
